This was our first trip with Gate 1 and it will definitely not be our last. We were impressed by the organization of the trip and how smoothly everything went. She gave us many helpful hints as we set out on own in the city.We can not say enough about our cruise director, Adrien. She worked tirelessly each and every day and was clearly visible at all hours.

I would have to say that the on-ship experience greatly exceeded our expectations. We cant come up with a single disappointment in terms of food, quality of room, or service. Cruise manager/trip leader was excellent, and waiters and all service people were excellent, very friendly and caring.Low water did keep us from sailing all the way to the last port, but that was not Gate 1's fault. He was always cheerful and friendly and it was always pleasing to come into our well-appointed room, which he refreshed and tended to at least twice a day. We have gone on many many ocean cruises, but this was our first river cruise and thanks to the ship staff and all the port guides, we will plan more river cruises. Our son had a separate cabin and the staff made it easy for us both to be kept together in every aspect of the trip.
It can be booked through Gate 1 with a 10-day free look period before it becomes nonrefundable. On other lines that include several excursions per day, you often end up "paying" for shore tours that you never take, maybe because you don't want to go or simply want to stay onboard and take a nap. Gate 1 Travel offers one daily excursion, plus optional trips if you want to up the pace and see more. There are usually four of these per weeklong cruise and they can be booked in advance at a 10 percent discount or booked once onboard.
In addition to being very comfortable, the ships are filled with lots of thoughtful design details and amenities that you might expect from a more expensive line. For example, there are alarms, bathroom nightlights, robes and phones conveniently located by the bed in most cabins. Both lines draw their crew members from a variety of countries that line the route of their European cruise itineraries, such as Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania. On both lines, the crew members are very professional, friendly and speak excellent English. Gate 1 has a more generous cancellation policy if you cancel closer to the time of sailing.
It should also be noted that the price of river cruises fluctuates throughout the year, depending on the date of travel, itinerary and time of booking. Both the Cruise Director and Activities Host were great and worked as a Team keeping passengers informed with upcoming events and helping them with misc. I truly loved the 2 speakers Bart had who came and talked with the passengers. Speakers were informative and the time went too fast. It was nice to get a different perspective of history.
